If your looking for a CD of the best hits of Dolly Parton's or if you want to start your Dolly Parton music collection this is where to start.
"Ultimate Dolly Parton" went all the way to number 20 on Billboards' Country Chart, the highest ever for any Dolly compilation CD. This is really the best of any CD that RCA has put together featuring Dolly's hits. The CD features 19 Dolly Parton #1 hits along with her most famous song "Coat of Many Colors" that went to number 4 in 1971. The sound quality is wonderful with the songs actually sounding better than ever before. Dolly also had a hand in picking the tracks of the album. The booklet inside is beautiful with brand new Dolly pics taken exclusively for the CD. There is also a page that shows many, but not all, of Dolly's RCA albums in color. What's also great is that 2 tracks included here are non RCA songs, the Columbia release "Why You'd come in Here Lookin' That" from 1989 and the Warner's release of the Trio song "To Know Him is To Love Him". Pick this up. You won't be disappointed.
This was the first Dolly compilation I ever purchased prob because I am only 21 yrs old but still a big fan & this one brings back alot of memories from a few summers ago for me so it will always be my fav. Aside from that I think it is an awsome collection of songs anyway, sure it is missing some of the very early ones like DUMB BLONDE & JUST BECAUSE I'M A WOMAN but I still think its essential. I think what I love about this one is that it has a certian feel thru the whole album. Such songs as YOUR THE ONLY ONE, LOVE IS LIKE A BUTTERFLY, I REALLY GOT THE FEELING, and BUT YOU KNOW THAT I LOVE YOU give the album a diffrent feel, and even though I like her other songs I feel songs like 2 DOORS DOWN would throw the album off since it has that certian feel to it. Maybe thats just me since I fell in love with these songs when I first heard them all together here so thats my opinion. Some of my other favs are JOSHUA, JOLENE, TENNESSEE HOMESICK BLUES & ISLANDS IN THE STREAM. Over all I highly recommend this one as it has SOOO many hits and every song is great! This album includes alot of Dolly's pop hits more so than other compilation's so its diffrent. Also make sure you check out Dolly's brand new BACKWOODS BARBIE album because its her best work in years, the Legend is still on top of her game!
Dolly Parton is one of those artist's where the persona almost eclipses her true talent. We've seen her taking jabs from Johnny Carson. We've seen her try her hand at acting. And we've seen her play second fiddle to some guy named Porter. Here you get 20 slices of American apple pie. Dolly for what Dolly truly is----a fine singer of songs. From her self-penned classics "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You" , to her duets with Kenny Rogers and Emmylou Harris (the "To Know Him Is to Love Him" cover is nothing short of brilliant) , and everything else in between. Great overview of a great career.
