"The best things in life are free
But you can keep it for the birds and bees.
Now gimme money (that's what I want)
That's what I want (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want.

Money don't get everything it's true.
What it don't get I can't use.
So gimme money (that's what I want)
A little money (that's what I want)
That's what I want, ye-ye-yeh,
That's what I want."
The Beatles

The Royals in a scandal? Shocked? In 1971, MI5 or is it MI6 shook the walls and employed every sort of scam to obtain some pictures of Princess Margaret in very compromising X-rated situations. This film is the story of the caper to get those pictures back. A true story we are told and the results of this robbery shook the entire upper crust.

A robbery took place at the Lloyd's bank at the corner of Baker's Street and Marylebone Road in London. The afore mentioned pictures had their home in a safe box in this bank. A gang of villains, as one of the female characters called these thugs, dug their way into the safety deposit box area and made off with millions of dollars worth of loot and valuables. The motley crew of characters were brought together to pull off the heist. Jason Statham plays Terry, a third rate car dealer with a wife and family being hounded by creditors. He sees this job as a way to get out of his debt. Terry and his gang are recruited by an ex-model Martine, who is played by Saffron Burrows. Martine was caught in a drug bust and is paying back a top government man for her freedom. She is double crossing her ex-lover, Terry and he knows something is up. He and the gang dig underground into the safe deposit area of the bank, and into 'one helluva a mess'.

The film starts out strong with an x-rated version of England's Margaret having a very good time on the beach in an island scene. The story seems plausible,if not done many times before. The gang, a little naive and sloppy, but full of east London's best. The film lags here and there and the script falls apart. The basic premise is old and tired, but the characters do give this film some charm and I stuck it out to the end.

Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows definitely make the movie. A great heist movie wherein you want the crooks to get over, mostly because of their savvy and vulnerability. The movie has a great plot and some surprises. It can be a little bloody toward the end, but without that, it wouldn't be as substantive. Recommended.
