I purchased this pad as an upgrade for my Nostromo N52 (which I still love to this day) because of the four additional buttons and the Shiftstate (two really great features). While this has helped greatly in many games, since I have more buttons at my disposal, my wrist has been telling me otherwise. I had my N52 for 4 years, without a wrist problem. All it took was 3 months for the bones in my palm to start jamming into my wrist (quite painful, trust me). So, a word of caution to anyone who has lax joints, stick with something more ergonomically-inclined, like the N52. The loss of buttons is a disappointment, but losing your wrist is a bigger one.
I am giving this controller 2 stars because I had too many issues with keys that would send their strokes multiple times. I used it for playing poker and at times I would press a key for one window, the controller would continue sending that key to other windows causing me to lose money. I promptly stopped using it and have the Wolf King command pad.
After using this, it's difficult to go back to use WASD. Moving your character around with one thumb beats using 3 fingers. The software does have a learning curve and it does takes getting used to moving with your thumb. Another sucky thing is that you have to load the profile every time you power up your computer. The buttons is a bit sticky, but not too bad. The build quality of this is not quite as good as the n52, but I like the joystiq better than the directional pad. It's also a great device to use with your laptop, if you don't want to wear out the keys on the lappy.
