This is a fairly short CD, at only 9 songs, but the high quality of each track is worth it. The weak spot, comparatively speaking, is "Help Is On Its Way" by the Little River Band, but even that is a good song. The best are America's "Ventura Highway," Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver," Alan Parsons's "Games People Play," and Al Stewart's "Time Passages." Whether relaxing, driving, working, or studying, this fits all moods.
70's Greatest Rock Hits: #1 Hits Vol.9 is a budget priced CD that has nine great rock tunes on it for us to enjoy. Although the music is great and the price is relatively low, I still think that they should have added at least one more song to make this a better value. After all--come on--they couldn't have rounded the track list out to an even ten tracks? Sigh. However, the sound quality is excellent and I like the artwork.
Captain & Tennille kick it off right with their major hit entitled "Love Will Keep Us Together." "Love Will Keep Us Together" features great singing, awesome guitar and a beat that really makes you listen! This is a strong beginning for the CD and I like this song very much. The keyboard arrangement is also very impressive. B.J. Thomas's "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" is easily a major highlight of this album; this timeless classic tune always brings back memories for me. B. J. Thomas was one talented artist--I predict that you'll enjoy this tune very much if you haven't heard it already.
The Partridge Family offers up a hit with their "I Think I Love You." David Cassidy sings this out strong and the musical arrangement lacks nothing. This rock hit almost sounds light compared to some of the rock music we've heard lately but this still works very well. "Knock Three Times" by Tony Orlando and Dawn is a smooth, lighter style of rock song but I love the melody and I think you will enjoy this, too. Tony's voice is strong and full of masculine warmth which enhances his singing. Tony Orlando & Dawn come back a second time on this CD for another great hit they had entitled "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You);" this tune features Tony & Dawn singing with all their hearts and souls; and this tune always moves me whenever I hear it.
Gilbert O' Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)" is a tearjerker song that stuns me with its beauty; and listen also for "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes.
Overall, this CD is chock full of excellent rock numbers from the great 1970s. It really brings back memories for me and I hope it will for you, too. I think they should have added at least one more song so I will take off one star to make this a four star review.
