The more you hear, the more you like!
I really appreciate, more and more only real music. I dont speak about 'guitar' or voice things, but tone, note and melody are what I seek for.
Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and Satriani are for me really similar. It's good, very good music.
I don't see Satriani as only a guitarist (and don't think Satriani considers himself as a guitarist), he's a modern true musician.
He does music as Mozart was doing music but only with contemporary instruments.
When you compare others 'guitarits' with him, they are so far away musically speaking, they may produce one or two good songs but what of their entire work? They don't have the regularity of Satch albums.
And I think the master continue to improve with time. I think his 2 first albums are his worst albums and that he began doing good compositions with 'Flying in a blue dream'.
I didn't really like this last album at first. But then I began to appreciate it and now I love it (similar thing with classical music, it's so complex than at first you dont enter in the music and then...)
So maybe if I had done this review after the first hearing, I would have scored the album a 3 stars.
But I continued to listen and now I give it an excellent 5 stars. Of course it's not a perfect album (none of Satch are perfect and nothing at all is perfect anyway).
But it's far better than the other music available.
Don't know, nor do I care what others say here because opinions are entirely subjective, mine included. One word should suffice when it comes to this musician: virtuoso. Consider the definition: "a musician who shows exceptional ability, technique, or artistry." That said, you'd get your money's worth out of this album with one song: "Revelation". All the crappy, pimply, neo-rock vampire adjectives aside, this man is as good on the guitar as McCartney is on the bass, and that's saying something. If you don't buy the CD (which would be a shame), at least buy the single. You'll wear out your Ipod listening.
I was skeptical about buying this CD after reading some of the negative reviews. I was blown away! This CD is awesome. Why the criticism? This is a solid CD from start to finish. I do not hear any filler. I had the chance to see him live a couple of weeks ago. Joe and his band put on a fantastic show. Keep up the great work guys!
