The Who Sell Out
Date undefinedI cannot overstate enough what a landmark album this is. Townshend and The Who entered their own with The Who Sell Out. Brash, loud, exciting, intelligent, crazy, profound, imaginative and fun. The Who new how to have fun and be funny while everyone was going to San Francisco.
From the ground breaking Pop Art cover to the last refrains of "Track Records....Track Records...", this album is a tour de force.
My only gripe is the remastering. What was John Astley thinking? It sounds totally flat and sterile. No justice has been served to the way it originally sounded. The mix is all over the place. "I Can't Reach You", has the vocals and tambourine in one channel, while all the instrumentation is in the other. It sounds thin and hollow.
My advice is to find a copy on vinyl and experience the original spread of the mix.

Date undefinedThe Who Sell Out represents the best Who performances but I'd only say that after hearing the additional tracks. The original album is great but the extras make this essential. It also represents the Who at near or around their peak along with Live At Leeds. I'm biased but the first 3 albums are the best. They are energetic, exciting and really good fun.

It is so great, as in one of those albums that when you listen you might wonder to your self -- Wow, is there a human on this earth with such bad taste that they don't like this? If someone tells you anything but that this album is great, their taste in all things should be questioned. If you don't have this already, get it now!!!!!!!!!
