This one really grows on you.

I liked it initially but it took a few more listens to realize just how GOOD it really is.

This is my first Clutch album, so I can't say whether its their best or worst or whatever, but I can tell you that its a very unique, intelligent, and just totally ROCKING album!

"Pure Rock Fury" indeed.

The sound? Uh, stoner rock mixed with a dab of funk influence... add some blistering guitar work, a very powerful shrieking voice with an interesting amount of schizophrenic range (in the same league with HR of the Bad Brains and that dude from System Of A Down), and lyrical content with more big words than a Bad Religion album and I'm still selling this album short.

It hammers, it wails, it grooves, and if you've never heard Clutch, sounds like nothing you've heard before.

Also, its an hour long, and its mostly great, so its totally worth the cash.

Pick it up if you like to rock.

2001. Rap-rock is the trend of the moment. Flimsy faux-grunge bands sounding equally as bland as each other run rampant. Lame retro rock is beginning to clutter up radio airwaves. Enter Clutch's "Pure Rock Fury" to save the day. The dirge-like, massive guitar riffs, the standout rhythm section, Neil Fallon's unorthodox and engaging lyrical and vocal delivery. It's all intact and at it's finest here. Rising above the stoner-rock stereotypes, what Clutch deliver here is indeed pure rock at it's finest. While the minor hit, "Careful With That Mic," mocks rap-rock, the other 12 tracks that fill out the set focus on rocking out as hard and as sincerely as possible. Borrowing elements from the likes of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, what Clutch brings to the table isn't so much retro, as it is a natural evolution from what classic rock is defined by today. Songs like "Frankenstein" and "Red Horse Rainbow" give way to extensive jams that actually sound natural, rather than feeling gimmicky or tacked on. Meanwhile, "The Great Outdoors" and the aformentioned "Careful With That Mic" feature a bit of swagger and funk in their step, and help to break up the pace of this unrelenting album. For your money, though, "Sinkemlow," "American Sleep," "Pure Rock Fury" and a superb live version of "Spacegrass" are the winners. Without sacrificing an ounce of who they are, Clutch show growth and limitless potential here. Anyone who can appreciate rock n' roll in it's purest form will find "Pure Rock Fury" to be a hefty chunk of comfort food with quite a few surprises sprinkled in between.

Well, not much to say here. Neil (the bad man with a thousand voices) and company do exactly what the title says: they unleash Pure Rock Fury. Clutch is one of those bands where you can't just listen to two or three tunes off the CD; it demands to be played in its entirety while you and your friends are hopefully partying and freaking out because no band you ever heard in your life jams the way Clutch does. A lot different than the classic Transnational Speedway, but it's still Clutch and every tune is a ten out ten. Don't pass this one up. If you're new to Clutch and want to check one CD out before buying a bunch of them, get Tranational Speedway League first. After that you'll grab every other one: trust me. And don't forget to raise a glass of beer to the live version of Spacegrass on here!

Necrosoul.
