I really enjoyed this concert, but I knew some things in advance based on other reviews here. I'll summarize:
- The surround is not very good. I recommend listening in stereo or 2.0, sounds great, and concerts are mixed in 2.0 in the arena anyway.
- They do the "MTV cut to a new angle every second". Just ignore that.
- The first chapter is a complete waste of time, skip it.
- I haven't watched the extras, so I can't comment. I've got no time for that!
Their great playing and great guitar sound makes this a worthy purchase.
I have to say I purchased this blu ray disc of the motley crue now I know what i have been missing...this group knows how to put on a show! the sound the footage and clarity is awesome its like I am there! I attended my first concert of CRUEFEST and seeing the carnival of sin tour how could I have missed out on that tour! this is definitely a keeper to watch over and over again when you want to rock out! turn up the surround sound and Jam!!! the behind the seen footage is great its like attending a concert and you have the backstage pass... YOU MUST BUY THIS you will be glad you did!
Unfortunately, Vince Neil ruins this whole DVD. His performance is awful. It's really too bad, because the rest of the band (Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee) are locked in a tight groove and just hammering tunes out. If you read Dirt, you'd know Vince is a full-on drinker and nobody can tell him to quit. So my guess is he got wasted before this performance to calm his nerves of being filmed, which may have worked, but his singing suffers, not just a little bit...alot. You'd think, well okay, I can get over a few flumbed words here and there, right?
Well the problem is, he only ever sings half the lyrics to any song - no kidding. Example: Dr. Feelgood lyrics from the studio album, "he's the one they call Dr. Feelgood, he's the one that makes you feel alright, he's the one they call Dr. Feelgood, he's gonna be your Frankenstein". Here's what drunk Vince sings on this DVD instead, "he's the one...Dr. Feelgood...feel alright, he's the one...Feelgood......Frankenstein". No joke. That's how every song is sung. Or Girls,Girls,Girls from the studio, "Girls Girls Girls, long legs and burgundy lips. Girls Girls Girls, dancing down on Sunset Strip". Drunk Vince on DVD, "Girls Girls Girls...burgundy lips. Girls Girls...strip". Too bad, this could have been one great DVD and the Crue deserves better. Vince, get a clue and drop the sauce for one night, it's DVD concert film, not a drunk rehearsal.
