Great voice, suspense, live characters and a real plot. The metaphors are so rich and beautiful, I wish I had written them. The ending is perfect. A missing child, whether he/she is found or not, changes everyone's life around him/her. You can't turn back time, as much as you'd love to. I was afraid the ending was going to be too typically happy, but it was perfect. It was a very real ending. I will definitely read more of this author.
The repetition some people complain about are necessary to show the impact of such a tragedy on your life. You almost go crazy.
This was an okay book, but it was too long and repetitive. I found myself skimming through the endless search scenes. And, in the end, I found the behavior of the main characters a little hard to believe. The protangonist was really a victim. This was no random kidnapping, yet the boyfriend didn't seem to understand that his messed up family stole a year from this poor woman's life. I wanted to smack him in the end.
This story started out with an interesting premise. However, the story goes nowhere. The main character goes off on these long, pretentious, boring soliloquies that have nothing to do with the main plot. The main character never develops at all, and she is so shallow and annoying that I really didn't care a thing about her. I bought this book on impulse at Target, and I'm sorry that I wasted my money on it.
