I wanted to be sure to have given this pad proper play time before I gave it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. We have had it for close to a year and I can honestly say, "we love it!" I actually ordered a second one yesterday for my other daughters' birthday so the two can play together. My oldest daughter, 8 and a half, went to a birthday party recently where the girls played "Double DDR" with flat dance mats and she said it was horrible. The pads slid on the floor while playing and bunched up under her feet. For a child that typically scores in the A-B range, she didn't get higher than a D because the placement of her feet didn't match the arrows. Another bonus over the flat pads is that this pad is slightly larger, making it easier for moms (and dads) to dance too! My understanding of the smaller pads is that the arrows are quite close together, a disadvantage for a larger person. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the "cumbersome" factor. I doesn't fold up nicely for storage like the flat pads, but will slide nicely on its side into a tight space.....just something to consider. Otherwise, a perfect score!
Dance Revolution is a fun way to get actively involved in songs. The most artistic way to get exercise, develop coordination eurhythmicly as you get a deeper understanding of each song as you watch and respond to signals on the screen for your feet to follow. Then if yu want more of a challenge than others dancing with you, you can choose to compete at a higher level and dance faster to more syncopated rhythms. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have something in their house that can be enjoyed by family members of all ages.
