I downloaded the audio version of this book after reading the reviews. I don't like reading books with a lot of cursing and sex in them so I have been sticking to the young adult section thinking it would be safer. So I was pretty shocked when I had only been listening to the book for about 10 minutes before the fist f-word was used. Maybe I'm a prude but I really hate that word and it and other words were used far to often in this book. The story was pretty good, it took me a while but I did get interested in it. But if I had teenage kids there is no way I would let them read this. The language is terrible and there is far to much sex talk. Most of the guys in the book are very inappropriate with the exception of Dmitry, he's pretty cool.
I bought this first book in the Vampire Academy series after seeing someone recommend it on a list of books for people who liked the Twilight series. When I started reading it, I immediately got sucked in and couldn't put it down! I stayed up late last night to finish it, and just ordered the next two in the series.
The world and characters that Mead has created are interesting and fun, and the novel pulls you along in a suspenseful way.
Although it is written for young adults, be forewarned that it does contain more "adult" references to alcohol/drug use and sex.
A great read!
