The Awesome 2 Present: The History of Rap, Vol. 1

If you've been searching for some of these old tracks on CD, in "CD quality," you might feel my frustration when encountering MANY discs that dub the songs straight from vinyl. While the nine tracks on this CD are certainly true school classics, beware that some are taken from vinyl records. On this particular compilation, here's my sound quality analysis (tape source means that it is probably taken from the master tapes, although it may be several generations removed):

1. The Message (heavy compression; tape source used)
2. The Breaks (tape source; excellent sound quality)
3. Love Rap (heavy compression; tape source used)
4. Feel The Heartbeat (dubbed from vinyl; so-so quality)
5. Funk You Up (tape source; compression and noise reduction applied)
6. Rapper's Delight (tape source; heavy compression; better sources available elsewhere)
7. Planet Rock (tape source; heavy compression; decent sound quality)
8. Rockin' It (dubbed from vinyl; so-so quality)
9. That's The Joint (tape source; decent sound quality)

When the "AWESOME TWO" (of 105.9 WHBI & WNWK in NYC) put this compilation together back in 1990, they selected nothing less than the best of what Hip-Hop had to offer of that good ol' beloved era, that we all miss and cherish. At the time ('90) there were no such compilations in existence of classic Hip-Hop. This one was the first, and through out the years, many followed their foot steps, and many classic rap tunes resurfaced, decades after their original release. But this compilation was a landmark compilation, for the fact that it was the first and remains one of the best and most complete to date! a must have for all classic Hip-Hop fans!

This isn't a bad Cd. I thought the lyrics would be better. I would still buy it!
